1. Never rely only on reading interview Q&As
Interview Q&As mostly distract you rather than help you. Even if you get similar questions asked in an interview; the way you answer those would be different if you really practiced that specific topic and not just read about it in interview Q&As tutorial. Interviewer can easily catch the gaps in your answer and may trick you there with a twisted question.
Every topic contains a large variety of concepts. Your interviewer can come up with a variety of questions that just cannot be clubbed into an interview Q&A tutorial. So, why bother making a preconceived notion about an interview when odds are high of breaking it.
2. Focus on core concepts and coding
Automation QE interviews revolve around coding skills. So, practicing ample coding exercises would definitely help. Know that actual programs asked in an interview can be entirely different. But, by developing on the fly logic building ability through extensive coding practice, it becomes easy to write a program for an entirely new scenario during interview.
3. Never guess for an answer of a conceptual question in an interview
Say “I don’t know” instead of guessing. Interviewer knows that no one knows everything. He/she, as well, does not know everything about the topic that he/she is asking questions upon. No one knows everything! So, being polite and saying “I don’t know” is better than guessing. Also, showcase your interest and ability to learn more about that concept in future. And thank the interviewer for bringing this knowledge gap to your attention. This is important.
4. Don’t quit on a coding exercise
Most of the people give up when they are confronted with a coding challenge which they think they can’t solve. Never do this mistake. Interviewer is looking for your logic building and problem solving ability here. If you quit, then you are saying indirectly, that you might do the same when you are confronted with a similar situation in actual project. So, instead of quitting on a coding exercise try to come up with logic/algorithm for solving it, to whatever extent possible.
5. ‘What We Are’ communicates far more eloquently than anything we say or do
Always remember these golden words of Stephen Covey. Being natural and not trying to be over confident always helps in an interview.
